We have an education program we'd prefer to keep free for the learning material, but charge for the CEUs available to claim after completion. The focus of our marketing effort is the content itself, with the available credit being more of a bonus for certain audiences. Conceptually we'd like the user to be able to complete the free activity and then have the option to purchase the CEU.

We tentatively plan to create a separate certification product for the CEU portion (with the free content as the group 1 required learning product); or alternatively create a 2nd standard learning product for the CEU portion and utilize learning product prerequisites. Both of these will accomplish separating the two into unique pieces where one can be free and one can be paid, but it doesn't feel particularly seamless to the end user as they still have to purchase/enroll in a 2nd product.

For those in the community offering CE, are you using similar (or alternate) workflows? Can you share any lessons learned regarding the user experience?

Hi Matt, this is not something we can so at this time, however, one of our other clients has utilized the Learning Product Description to sort of do what you are describing. They place course information with links to videos, etc. inside the Product Description. Credit could only be claimed by purchasing that product. Another option is a Content HTML that links to the purchasable product containing the credit.
